Level Up at Your Library
Take your summer to the next level at your library! Dive into thrilling tales full of action and adventure, uncover exciting discoveries through special library events, and unlock rewards as you read your way through the summer.
From Saturday, June 14 to Saturday, August 9, 2025 readers of all ages can take part in the fun, with prizes, programs, and special events designed to entertain and educate. Summer Reading is fun, free, and for all.
Register by visiting the Long Beach Public Library's Beanstack page or any of our neighborhood libraries. Don’t forget to download the Beanstack app onto your phone or tablet from Google Play or the App Store to make tracking what you read even easier.
You can also register for Summer Reading by picking up a paper game sheet from any library location.
Children (ages 0 to 12)
Kids earn a prize for every 5 books they read and every 5 activities they complete. For every 10, 20, and 30 books read, participants will be entered into an opportunity drawing for a chance to earn a special prize.
Teens and Adults (12 and up)
Teens and adults earn a prize for every book they read and every 5 activities they complete. For every 2, 5, and 6 books read, participants will be entered into an opportunity drawing for a chance to earn a special prize.
Grand prize winners will be selected on Tuesday, August 12 and notified by phone.
Embark on an epic adventure with special performances and events at your local library. Meet creatures from all over the world, discover music and dance, and blaze new trails with magic, juggling and puppetry that will delight readers of all ages.
We’re also featuring big names in publishing through our Virtual Author Talks series, opportunities for incoming sixth through eighth graders with our SEED Creative City Lab, and a special challenge for tinkerers with The Studio’s Maker Challenge.

¡Lleva tu verano al siguiente nivel en tu biblioteca! Sumérgete en emocionantes cuentos llenos de acción y aventura, descubre emocionantes descubrimientos con eventos especiales y desbloquea recompensas mientras lees durante el verano.
Del sábado, 9 de junio al sábado, 14 de agosto lectores de todas las edades pueden participar con premios, programas y eventos especiales diseñados para entretener y educar. Lectura de Verano es divertida, gratis, y para todos. ¡No se la pierdan!
CÓMO INSCRIBIRSE
Inscríbete en el sitio web longbeach.beanstack.org o visitando cualquiera de nuestras bibliotecas. PREMIOS
Jóvenes (0 a 12 años de edad)
Los jóvenes pueden ganarse un premio por cada cinco libros que leen y cada cinco actividades que completan. Por cada 10, 20 o 30 libros que leen, los participantes participarán en un sorteo para tener la oportunidad de ganar un premio especial.
Adolescentes y Adultos (12 años y más)
Los adolescentes y adultos ganan un premio por cada libro que leen y cada cinco actividades que completan. Por cada 2, 5 o 6 libros que leen, los participantes participarán en un sorteo para tener la oportunidad de ganar un premio especial.
Los ganadores de los premios grandes serán seleccionados el martes, 12 de agosto y serán notificados por teléfono.
EVENTOS ESPECIALES
Embarcate en una Aventura epica este verano con actuaciones especiales y eventos en tu biblioteca. Conoce a criaturas de alrededor del mundo, descubre música y baile, y abre nuevos caminos con magia, malabarismo y títeres que que encantarán a todas edades.
También presentaremos autores reconocidos con nuestras serie de charlas de autores virtuales, Virtual Author Talks, y oportunidades para jóvenes del sexto al octavo grado con SEED Creative City Lab, y un reto especial para lectores que les gusta experimentar y crear con el reto Summer Maker Challenge del Studio.

LitLoot
A Curated Goody Bag for Teens
Who can sign up for LitLoot?
Any library cardholder entering Grades 7-12.
Where can I get a LitLoot bag?
Your LitLoot bag can be picked up from the following LBPL locations:
- Billie Jean King Main Library
- Alamitos Library
- Bach Library
- Bay Shore Library
- Brewitt Library
- Burnett Library
- Dana Library
- El Dorado Library
- Harte Library
- Mark Twain Library
- Michelle Obama Library
How does it work?
- During the summer, sign up each month for a new LitLoot bag. If you miss a sign up period, you must wait until the next application period.
- June: Apply between June 3–17
- July: Apply between July 1–15
- August: Apply between August 5–19
- To apply, fill out the LitLoot form (it’s easy, we promise!) and let us know what you like to read.
- You will receive an email when your registration is accepted/denied and when your LitLoot bag is ready to be picked up.
- Pick up your LitLoot bag from the library. Your LitLoot bag will have 2 library books, a special treat, and goodies.
- When you’re done, return the library books and keep the rest!
Things to Know
- You can sign up every month, if you want to.
- LitLoot is a special first-come, first-served program and quantities are limited.
- The check-out and hold periods are the same as any other book.

Summer Maker Challenge

Are you a creative enthusiast or just love making things? Dive into an adventure this summer! Join us for Summer Maker Challenge (SMC) and explore a world of exciting, adventure-themed programs and activities. Attend workshops, complete activities, and win prizes from June 14 to August 30, 2025!
Who can sign up?
The Summer Maker Challenge is intended for ages 12 and up.
Where can I sign up?
Sign up at The Studio located on the second floor of the Billie Jean King Main Library. When you speak to a Studio staff member, they will help you sign up via Google Form and give you your passport. Use your SMC passport to track your progress throughout the challenge.
How can I win?
Earn points when you attend workshops and/or complete activities. You can win up to 4 prizes and each point gets you one entry into our bigger, bonus raffle prizes. Raffle prize winners will be announced at the end of Summer Maker Challenge. The more points you earn, the more prizes you can win!

Summer Maker Challenge Launch Day!
Saturday, June 14, 1–4 PM
Come to the first day of The Studio’s 2025 Summer Maker Challenge as we launch into our new and updated Activity Kits! At this workshop, you can get a head start on the activities that we have created for this summer. (Ages 12+)
Intro to Engineering: Building an Automaton
Tuesday, June 17, 4–6 PM
What is an automaton? How does it work? Join The Studio and create a mechanical moving device from scratch using cardboard and other everyday-use materials. All materials will be provided, and the workshop is free to attend. No reservation is necessary. Free supplies will be provided to 15 patrons and distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. (Ages 12+)
Leatherworking: Playing Card Cases
Saturday, June 28, 1–4 PM
Join us for a hands-on leatherworking workshop where you’ll learn basic techniques like cutting, assembling, and finishing leather goods. By the end, participants will walk away with custom playing card cases they made themselves—perfect for game nights or gifting! Free supplies will be provided to 15 patrons and distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. (Ages 12+)
Video Game Design with Bitsy
Saturday, July 5, 1–4 PM
Unleash your imagination to create your own interactive pixel art games on Bitsy. Embark on a thrilling adventure of storytelling (and a little bit of coding). No experience required. Free supplies will be provided to 15 patrons and distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. (Ages 12+)
Level UP-Cycle Lab
Thursday, July 10, 4–6 PM
Got an old, stained t-shirt or ripped pants you aren’t ready to let go of? Some blue jeans that need a little pizzazz? Then come and join us for fun and creative ways to remix that wardrobe! This will be a freestyle, DIY workshop with different stations to give new life to clothing you have lying around. Patrons will bring in their own clothing garments to upcycle/embellish (limit of 2 garments per patron.) Free supplies will be provided to 15 patrons and distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. (Ages 12+)
Sip and Paint
Saturday, July 19, 1–4 PM
Saturday, August 9, 1–4 PM
Brush up on your painting skills at The Studio’s Sip and Paint workshop! Follow along step by step as you create your own acrylic work of art, all while enjoying refreshing non-alcoholic drinks. All materials will be provided; registration is required. (Ages 18+)
Cricut T-Shirts and Tote Bags
Saturday, August 2, 1–4 PM
Join The Studio to personalize your very own items! We will create our designs using the Cricut, heat press, and fabric ink. Tote bags will be provided while supplies last; you are encouraged to bring your own t-shirt to decorate. Free supplies will be provided to 15 patrons and distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. (Ages 12+)
Pinhole Camera Photography and Darkroom
Saturday, August 16, 2–4 PM
Level up your photography! We will be creating our own pinhole cameras and using photo paper to make analog photographs. Then we will learn about and use developer and fixer solutions from household products to process our photos in the Studio Media Lab darkroom. Lastly, we will turn our negatives into positive images. All patrons will be able to take home their pinhole camera and photograph. Free supplies will be provided to 15 patrons and distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. (Ages 12+)
Tie-Dye Aprons and Closing Party
Saturday, August 23, 1–4 PM
Level up your tie-dyeing skills using various techniques: twisting, pleating, or crumping fabric with rubber bands into fun, creative patterns. Whether you're a beginner or looking to deepen your craft, there’s something for everyone. No outside garments will be allowed during the workshop. Free supplies will be provided to 15 patrons and distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. (Ages 12+)
While you tie-dye, please also join us in celebrating the end of our Summer Maker Challenge at our closing party and enjoy complimentary refreshments!
